Argentine national team masseur and close friend of Lionel Messi Marcelo D'Andrea has said that he has 'no doubts' the Barcelona man will feature in the World Cup in Russia in two years time despite appearing to retire from international football, saying that the forward would do 'anything' for his national team.
Messi made the announcement in the aftermath of Argentina's penalty shootout defeat to Chile in last month's Copa America final, the third major international final that Messi and his team have lost in three years.
However, D'Andrea said: "I have no doubts that Leo will play at the [2018] World Cup. I have a lot of faith in him and we must leave him alone for now. I trust him in his silence. He loves the national team and he will do everything for his country."
He added: "No one knew anything about Messi's retirement. He didn't say anything in the locker room. It is the hardest blow he has received with the national team, without doubt. He is one of my best friends and it is hard to see him how he is feeling."
D'Andrea's thoughts were echoed by Carlos Tevez, who said recently: "The AFA is an absolute mess. Leo sees the players breaking their backs for the shirt and sees the AFA neglecting them.
"We have to put ourselves in his position. He is tired, and that's normal. I also got tired of the national team a few times. We have to give him time. It is obvious that we need him. After a few games have passed and everything at the AFA is a bit more organised, perhaps the national team can seduce him back - and we will be waiting for him."
