Lionel Messi says he's retiring from the Argentina national team
Barcelona star Lionel Messi has revealed that he may never play for Argentina again after Sunday night's Copa America final loss to Chile.
The Albiceleste lost 4-2 on penalties to Chile after a 0-0 draw in Metlife Stadium and an emotional Messi sensationally told reporters after the match that his Argentina career may be over.
"It's a very hard moment for me to think about what happened," Messi told Tyc sports.
"In the locker room after the game I thought the national team is over for me, this is not for me...
"This is how I feel now. A big disappointment that this is happening again in a final. I missed a very important penalty. I'm done."
"It is for the good of everyone, we can't conform with reaching the final and not winning it."
Messi's Argentina teammates were socked by the news, with goalkeeper Sergio Romero saying that the No. 10 may have made a hasty decision.
"I think that Leo spoke in the heat of the moment, because a good opportunity passed us by," Romero said.
"Lamentably, the most f----- up is Leo because of the penalty. It's the worst I've seen him in the dressing room," Sergio Aguero added.
